Dr. Peter Kamande
Director of Westlands Veterinary Clinic
Dr. Peter Kamande is the medical director of Westlands Veterinary Clinic. He is a very well respected member of the veterinary community and well-known amongst his peers in the industry and works closely with many labs and specialists.
He is registered with the KVA (Kenya Veterinary Association and KVB (Kenya Veterinary Board) and a proud member of KESCAVA (Kenya Small and Companion Animal Veterinary Association) which is part of the larger global veterinary community.
He grew up in Central Kenya with a strong passion for animals from a young age. He went to Nairobi University in 2006 and graduated in 2011 with Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine. He then worked at Sarit Center Veterinary Clinic as a clinician for five years. During this time, he perfected and performed all surgeries, consultations, treatments, and worked with dogs, cats, birds, and reptiles.
After this time, Peter ventured out on his own to open his own clinic so he could devote more time to the animals he cares so much about. 2017 saw the proud birth of Westlands Veterinary Clinic where he has cared for countless animals. The clinic offers a full spectrum of veterinary services and is able to treat all kinds of animals including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, and other small animals.
Peter is married with two small children. In his free time, he loves researching the latest veterinary practices and advances to stay on top of his game. He has helped many graduating interns by giving them his time and expertise to help them learn from his invaluable experience. He is passionate about training new interns and passing on his vast knowledge so that they are trained correctly and can also become valuable members of the veterinary community.
In his free time, when he has any, he spends time with his wife and two children. However, he actually spends the majority of his time with his animals, caring for them with sincere dedication, care, and expert knowledge. He has answered many, many emergencies and always makes time to help his clients.
Dr. Salome Maina
Clinician - Westlands Veterinary Clinic
Dr. Salome Maina grew up in Nyandarua Province and spent her whole life growing up around animals which sparked her interest in working with them. She was a high achiever and graduated from high school 2nd best in Narok County. She was awareded with a full scholarship to Nairobi University's College of Agriculture and Veterinary Services (COAVS).
She graduated in 2020 with high-ranking from Nairobi University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. She has worked since graduating as a clinician under the supervision of Dr. Peter Kamande and has vast experience with all kinds of surgeries, clinical consultations, emergency medicine and grooming.
Her vision is to be able provide affordable quality consultation for all animals great and small and eventually open her own animal rescue shelter and clinic. She has cared for many a rescue animal at Westands Veterinary Clinic and the pets love her. In her spare time she likes to socialize , read and watch movies.
Peter Muiruri
Veterinary Nurse
Peter studied Animal Science at Chuka University in Meru and graduated in 2021. He has had dogs since a very young age and grew up around all farm animals, fostering his love for animals at a young age. He secured his position with Westlands Veterinary Clinic in 2022 as our resident Veterinary Nurse. He is passionate about working with animals and advancing his career in the field.
He plans to be registered with KVB within the year when he finishes his training and internship. We welcome him to our team and enjoy working with his pleasant personality and care and diligence when working with our pet patients. He likes to spend his free time learning more about his field and spending time with family.
Peter Njogu
Pet Technician & Handler
Peter is truly a loving, kind, and passionate animal lover. He studied at Nyahuru Boys High School and studied sciences. At 14 years of age, he had collected and cared for 330 rabbits and since that time, his passion for animals only grew.
He ventured out into the industry by learning about breeding dogs and learned much about handling and caring for dogs. He was a self-taught breeder for two years during which time he learned about ethical breeding. He wanted to further his experience and did an internship with Agrovet for one year to learn all aspects of veterinary care such as handling the pets, veterinary back office, and handling clients with superior customer service.
He joined Westlands Veterinary Clinic in 2019, where his experience was taken to a higher level as he gained invaluable experience from Dr. Peter Kamande. He is gentle, kind and loving and very patient with sick pets. He is currently also studying to become a veterinary practitioner. He loves to learn the history of his pet patients and works hard to establish trust with pets he handles.
He is the king of our boarding and daycare facilities as he loves to play with the pets and make sure they are happy, well-fed, and well-cared for. He will often stay long hours to care for any sick pets, so they are not alone.
Peter enjoys travelling, swimming, and socializing in his spare time. He is passionate that animals get the right care, treatment, love, and attention that they deserve. His future goals are to even possibly go back into ethical breeding and would like to eventually own his own kennels.
